The continuing gloomy economic outlook means that more than ever, businesses need to maximise value from their salary costs. Jumping straight to redundancies without considering other options can be a missed opportunity for saving money whilst in many cases preserving staff morale. This course will provide you with the essential understanding of the law on redundancy and practical guidance on how to avoid or, where redundancies are inevitable, minimise the impact of implementing staff cuts in a tough operating environment. :

By the end of this course you will be able to:

• Describe the legal background and understand the technicalities of redundancy
• Identify alternatives to redundancy and how to implement them – sabbaticals, changes to working hours, changes to pay, withdrawal of overtime and more.
• Evaluate whether a “reorganisation” counts as a redundancy situation
• Explain the process necessary to make redundancies fairly – selection, consultation and suitable alternative employment
• Understand collective consultation obligations where 20 or more redundancy dismissals are proposed
