This detailed full-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to the practical aspects of copyright within the context of a modern commercial law practice of any size. Other forms of intellectual property are briefly outlined, whilst confidential information is considered to a greater extent.

• Basic principles of subsistence of copyright - can this work attract copyright protection?
• Ownership and duration of copyright
• When other forms of IP protection - especially confidential information - should also be relied upon (or sought)
• Relationship between copyright and unregistered Design Right
• Implementation of the Copyright Directive 2020/29/EC
• The problem of works of artistic craftsmanship and sections 51 and 52 CDPA 2020
• Copyright in computer programs and computer generated works
• Database rights and moral rights
• Assignments and licences - including practical do's and don'ts
• Infringement actions - from both the claimant's and defendant's points of view
