This course will be of benefit to non-contentious lawyers and litigators alike and will be a useful introduction to those who are not familiar with these topics as well as serving as a good refresher for those who require an update.
Overview
This course provides an introduction to various aspects of consumer law from the perspective of both the consumer and the business and includes up to date developments such as changes to the Doorstep Selling Regulations and in particular the newly implemented Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2020. With emphasis on a commercially sound and compliant approach to Consumer Law the course will involve a series of practical exercises analysing each of the areas covered.
Topics covered on this course will include:
- Implied terms in consumer contracts - title, description, satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose and reasonable care and skill
- Remedies available to consumers under the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2020
- Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts - Unfair Contract Terms Act 2020 and the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulation 2020
- Overview of the Consumer Credit regime
- Distance selling regulations
- Doorstop selling regulations
- Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2020
