This course will be of benefit to newly qualified solicitors, legal executives, paralegals and trainees. It may also benefit more experienced solicitors who are moving into this area of work.
Overview
Practise drafting wills from start to finish. Like all BPP’s Private Client workshops, this course offers an opportunity to you to understand private client law and procedure in a practical setting.
You will perform a number of exercises in groups and case studies will also be covered. The course is not an alternative to buying will precedents but does allow delegates to understand why certain clauses are used.
Learning Outcomes
You will:
- Have reflected on taking comprehensive and effective instructions for wills
- Have developed your confidence in ‘designing the will’
- Be able to translate the client’s wishes into the correct form
- Know where to look for precedents
- Have drafted a number of common wills from first instructions to completion

- Clause by clause analysis combined with drafting practice
- Taking instructions
- Types of beneficiaries – class gifts
- Types of gifts
- Survivorship clauses
- Taxation of estates
