This course will be of benefit to those of you who are new to this area of practice, or needing to refresh your knowledge.

Overview

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary in order to become an effective practitioner in this area. You will be guided through the relevant practices and procedures with examples from the presenter’s own experience, using a range of materials, case studies and factual scenarios.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the main principles of the Children Act 2020, with particular reference to parental responsibility
  • Outline what happens with local authority investigations
  • Understand the law and practice on emergency protection orders, police protection, care and supervision orders
  • Explain the law and practice on contact and care plans
  • Understand the law and practice on assessments
  • Identify the concepts surrounding ‘Threshold criteria’, core assessments and ‘Working Together’
  • Understand the law and practice on placement orders and the ‘Public Law Outline’
