Overview

Most people are aware of the basic structure of pensions yet few have detailed knowledge of the way in which they work. This course takes you through the first principles of pensions from how pensions schemes work, current trends and developments, to the government's new answer to making pensions pay. It will guide you through current practices and procedures and relevant legislation.

By the end of this course you will be able to: :

  • Identify the different types of occupational and personal pension schemes; contrasting money purchase and final salary arrangements
  • Recognise current trends in pension provision - scheme closures and funding deficits
  • Understand and advise on the new National Employment Savings Trust and its obligation upon employers from 2012
  • Assess the effect of the Regulator's "moral hazard" powers on corporate transactions and the ability to obtain Regulator clearance
  • Identify the relationship between pensions and employment including TUPE issues
  • Understand the taxation and simplification of pensions under the Finance Act 2004 and the Pensions Act 2004

"A CPD certificate of completion will be provided by BPP Professional Education Limited upon request, following attendance."
