Delegates

This course is intended for delegates working in banking, investment management or advisory firms with a need to understand the world of Islamic Finance. No knowledge of Islamic banking or financial instruments is assumed.

Overview

Islamic finance has become one of the world’s fastest growing financial sectors as investors show an increasing appetite for a variety of Islamic financial instruments. The growth in Islamic finance in recent years has been driven by renewed awareness of faith based concept and the internationalisation of the financial markets. Estimates put the value of this market at between 400 and 500 billion USD, with 10-15% annual growth expected over the next five years. New products are being developed all the time, and competition between both conventional and Islamic financial institutions for market share is set to increase significantly.

The goal of this one day training course is to help delegates understand the principles of Islamic finance, Sharia laws and key Islamic products. Delegates will also develop a detailed understanding of Islamic financing contracts. The training will evaluate the governance structure of an Islamic financial institution and will explore the roles and responsibilities of the Sharia Supervisory Board.

The highly interactive training session will include trainer presentation supplemented by case studies to enable delegates to apply the discussed concepts of Islamic financial products both in theory and in practice.

Learning outcomes include obtaining a greater understanding of:

  • What is Islamic Finance?
  • What are the Driving Principles of Islamic Finance?
  • What are Islamic Contracts (Mudaraba, Musharaka, Murabaha, Ijara, Salam, Istisna)?
  • How can Islamic Contracts be Used to Develop Financial Products?
